Importing Resumes using iRex
There are basically two types of resumes, 1) those that are files (i.e. .doc, .rtf, .htm, .pdf, etc) and 2) those that reside in the body of an email or copied from the web. We'll cover the importing of these two types separately. Importing Resumes that are files (.doc, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, .htm, .wpd)

3) Allow 2-3 seconds for iRex to process each resume. Gopher will be tied up until all of the resumes have been processed. At that point, you will see a message box on the Gopher status bar stating ‘Click to load x resumes’. Click that box, and start importing. For more information on the options that appear when importing, refer to Gopher Help (Resume tab, Importing Resumes using iRex). Importing Resumes that are embedded in Email or on Web 1) Highlight the entire text of the resume and copy it. 2)

3) Allow 2-3 seconds for iRex to process the resume. Gopher will be tied up during this time. At that point, you will see a message box on the Gopher status bar stating ‘Click to load 1 resume’. Click that box, and start importing. For more information on the options that appear when importing, refer to Gopher Help (Resume tab, Importing Resumes using iRex). When the resume has been imported, you are taken back to the ‘iRex import via pasted resume box’, allowing you to import another resume. When finished importing, click the Close button to return to Gopher. Note: If you wish to preserve the original format of the resume, you may also paste the text of the resume into a Word document, and then click the ‘Save to iRex’ button. This turns the resume into a .doc file. For resumes that are embedded in the body of an email, you may also choose to save the entire email in the go4\resumes folder (select the email and click File, Save As, browse to your go4\Resumes folder on your local drive and save it there). This turns the resume into a .htm file. What happens behind the scenes? When you choose to import using the iRex, Gopher finds the files in the go4\Resumes folder on your local drive and sends them to iRex to be processed. For this reason, only resumes should be saved to the go4\Resumes folder. Once the resumes have been processed (allow 2-3 seconds per resume) and they import into Gopher, Gopher renames the resumes according to the candidate’s name and assigns a unique number at the end, i.e. NewtonIsaac4729.doc. The resume is then removed from the go4\Resumes folder on the local drive and saved to the server (the path is defined in Gopher Options). If the resume does not get imported, either because you cancel out of the import process, you choose No to not import a resume or iRex encounters a problem with the resume, the resume will be saved to either the go4\go4rbarchive folder or the go4\go4rberr folder on your local drive. What happens in Gopher during the import process? 1) A profile record is created for the applicant. 2) A resume record is created for the applicant. 3) The original resume is saved on the server, and linked to the resume record. 4) A comparison is performed between your keyword dictionary and the resume. All matching keywords are saved to the Skills area on the Profile tab. 5) A comparison is performed between the keywords that were found and required skills on open positions. All matches are saved to the applicant’s target list, and the applicant is added to the positions’ target list. 6) The work experience is parsed from the resume and saved to the Work History area of the individual snap shot. 7) A note pad entry is added showing the date the resume was imported. 8) A calendar entry is added as a reminder that the applicant was just added. Note that a calendar entry is not added when choosing the batch import. |
